  What happens when most of the grid goes down and there are mass riots across the country. Millions are dying, cities are burning out of control. The Chinese took over a handful of airports and then Ports where their freighters brought heavy military equipment, tanks, armored vehicles, and SAMs. Thousands and soon tens of thousands of troops are in California and the Pacific Northwest... Most of the citizens welcomed the Chinese as heroes.

The President ordered the US Military to stand down, not all agree. Some battalions decided to ignore the President and fight the Chinese, while others did stand down, only to get attacked by the Chinese. Not everyone listened, hundreds of thousands of veterans and armed citizens fought back. The Chinese soon learn a lesson the Japanese knew in 1941, there's a reason why American hadn't been invaded since the war of 1812. The reason was, there were over 400 million guns in private hands, there's a gun behind every blade of grass. The battle to save America is in the hands of the average American.  NOTE from the Department of National Records Preservation (By a FOIA [Freedom of Information Act] Request) that was filed on September 22, 2040, this copy of the document known as “Black Friday, the Accidental Third War, Book 1” is released only for historical purposes. It is not to be released to any foreign entity.

Fortunately, the Army officer in charge of the company that checked on the survivors in South Knoxville recognized the importance of the notebooks. In reading the journals, she learned the horrible truth that the Third World War had been started by an over-eager AI.

The journal is a series of notebooks discovered in August 2037 when the Army’s First Response team arrived in the author’s neighborhood to restore power and take a census of the survivors. The author wrote most of the journal in first person, and the Department of National Records Preservation has decided to leave it as is. Some misspellings may be due to how English was spoken and written before the war. An interesting note: the author, whom the locals called the Elder, with much respect, had a name for the war; he called it “The Accidental Third World War.” The Director of the department, Ryan Longshot, said that was a very appropriate name for the war, and we would now use that when discussing the Third World War.

 The 2016 election results shocked half the nation. The left, outraged, took to the streets chanting "He's Not My President!" and "Resist." The President's loss of the popular vote was largely due to California's vote difference.

Many Californians, considering themselves at the heart of American culture, felt disrespected by the rest of the country from the 2016 election. Inspired by the UK's Brexit, they initiated a movement to secede from the United States. Starting small, it quickly gathered the necessary signatures to place the question on the 2018 ballot.

Contrary to expectations, California risked secession. The Governor endorsed CALEXIT, pushing for the ballot's success, which it achieved decisively. Following the vote, he declared the formation of The People's Republic of California, not waiting for congressional or state approval.

This narrative is the first in a series exploring the hypothetical secession of California, the international recognition of their new nation, and the military support offered by other countries in exchange for basing rights. It introduces key characters, including a family from Yuba City near Beale Air Force Base, pivotal in the ensuing Civil War.

The secession of California could trigger a third world war if China decides to support the fledgling republic.

  The war in Ukraine saw the Ukrainians receiving western tanks and realizing they didn't solve their problems, nor did the western tanks scare the Russians. In the first battle of German Leopard 2 tanks versus Russian T-90 tanks, the Russians quickly routed the Ukraine's new toys.

 Irony is winning the Powerball lottery six months before the world's economies meltdown. The Shelter tells the story of a family who wins $27 million in the lottery, they pull roots and move to Nashville where they buy a large home bordered by three farms. With the money in hand the world's economies in the process of melting down. They 'buy the farm.' They purchase the three farms and the 7,000 square foot house. The farms are able to provide food when the economies collapse. The house is large enough to hold all of their extended family. To ensure their survival, Jay decides to build a large shelter under the farmland. Jay befriends the local Mafia 'Don', Tony, who helps him in exchange for a ticket in the shelter...What could go wrong?
